A new mild version of Colman’s mustard is to be
launched for fans who find the existing one too hot to handle. Colman’s Mild
will provide the traditional flavour of English mustard but with less heat,
making new flavour comparable to American style hot dog mustard. Thankfully,
the original version isn’t being phased out, but the news is still a worrying
development for those of us who love a big dollop of the spicy stuff. American
mustard is like yellow ketchup – so
mild as to be unmemorable. Mustard should make your eyes water and the hairs in
your nostrils stand up. Come on, Brits – I refuse to believe your tastebuds are
so delicate you can't cope with the original recipe. After all, you seem to
