New Yogurts

Skyr Icelandic Yogurt

For hundreds of years Icelanders have enjoyed the nutritious benefits of Skyr (pronounced 'skee-er') as part of their daily diet. Carefully strained to create a delicious, silky texture, it's low in fat and sugar, but high in protein. With all natural ingredients, It's the Icelandic Super Yogurt. These 150g pots are newly available in Tesco for 85p, and comprise of strained yogurt on a fruity layer. Available at my nearest Tesco in Strawberry, Mixed Berry, Sour Cherry and Apple & Lingonberry flavours. Yup, that's right - Lingonberry! Apparently it's a berry from a shrub native to the Arctic tundra, and looks a little like a cranberry.

But if Icelandic yogurt doesn't take your fancy, how about Lebanese style yogurt???!

Nomadic Labneh
Despite sitting amongst the sweeter yogurts in the supermarket aisle, this new yogurt has a very savoury taste. Labneh is even thicker than Greek yogurt and is perfect for using as a dip. In the Middle East, it's used in a similar way to hummus.

£1.39 for 350g pot in Tesco

Onken Greek Style
But if you'd still rather stick with the Greek... here are some tantalising new and somewhat novel flavours from Onken. Available in Rhubarb & Ginger, Lemon & Raspberry, and Apple & Cinnamon.
£1.79 for 450g pot in Tesco.

Tesco Custard Style Layered Desserts
100g pots of a custard style layered dessert available in Gooseberry and Apple & Blackberry flavours.
£1.25 for a pack of 4.

Muller Light: Chocolate Fix Layers
Good news for chocolate-lovers and dieters! Chocolate and caramel were made for each other. Perhaps that’s why Muller has combined it into two luscious layers in the new Chocolate Fix desserts. Oh happy days....

Minion and Frozen Iced Biscuits

Here are two new multi-pack bags of biscuits featuring the latest children's box-office smashers; Dispicable Me and Frozen. The Dispicable Me biscuits feature our favourite little yellow chappies again, and as far as I can tell, have a plain icing topping. The Frozen biscuits are topped with raspberry icing so that they are, of course, pink!
£1.59 for a pack of 6 in Tesco

Belvoir Summer Range

Belvoir has launched a range of fresh new summer drinks: Elderflower & Rose Cordial; Mango & Peach Cordial; Mango & Peach Pressé and Summer Fruits Pressé.
As with all Belvoir’s drinks, the new summer collection is hand made on the family farm using only real pressed fruit juices and freshly picked flowers.
The Food & Drink Innovation Network : UK Food & Drink Industry news, seminars, and conferences. » Belvoir Fruit Farms launches new summer range

Mango & Peach Pressé (25cl only) takes the combination of tropical mango and peach juices and blends them with lightly sparkling spring water. It's like a holiday in a glass!
Summer Fruits Pressé (75cl and 25cl) is designed to complement the Belvoir Summer Fruits Cordial launched last year, the new Summer Fruits Pressé combines the sweetness of pressed strawberry juice and the sharpness of pressed raspberry and redcurrant juices (no concentrates used here) – blended with lightly sparkling Belvoir spring water. You can almost taste summer already!

Honey Monster Footie Balls

Honey Monster Chocolate Crunch Footie Balls 190G

So apparently the Honey Monster is a fan of football. Well, that's what I'm gathering from this this limited edition children's cereal; Honey Monster Footie Balls. This cereal is, unsurprisingly, chocolate-based. However, disappointingly, the balls of chocolate have little relation to an actual football.
Available from Tesco for £1.00

Cadbury's Mini Rolls

Two 'special edition' flavoured mini rolls. Banana flavour makes sense; I have long been a fan of banana and chocolate, and think that it is under-rated and under-used as a flavour combination. Who doesn't like Nutella and banana pancakes!?! But fizzy cola? Interesting...

£1.00 for a pack of 5 in Tesco

Yet more from Emmi

Emmi Espresso Mr Big

Emmi Espresso Zero

Emmi has extended its coffee range (again!) by adding not one, but two new flavours: Mr Big Espresso and Espresso Zero.
Mr Big Espresso will be the strongest of the Emmi CAFFÈ LATTE range.
Containing three large shots of espresso (193mg per cup), this is for caffeine lovers. Forming a part of the Mr Big range, this larger 370ml offering will join the Cappuccino variant which launched exclusively to Tesco last year.
Espresso Zero will form part of the standard 230ml range.
It will be the first iced coffee of its kind containing no lactose or added sugar, offering a pure coffee flavour and setting it apart from all other iced coffees in the market. Espresso Zero is an offering for people who prefer a cold drink that isn’t too sweet. It also taps into shoppers seeking a healthier alternative, in line with current sugar concerns, as well as the ‘free-from’ trend growing in supermarket aisles. Made using fresh Swiss milk and coffee, brewed with Arabica coffee beans.
The new flavours are available exclusively in Tesco. Emmi CAFFÈ LATTE Mr Big Espresso (370ml) is available for £1.99 RRP and Espresso Zero (230ml) for £1.35 RRP.

It would seem that Mrs Crimble has been busy lately, because she's also brought out a new range of Pasta and Sauce in three flavours – Fusilli with a Rich Tomato and Mediterranean Herb Sauce, Fusilli with a Gourmet Mushroom and Cream Sauce and Fusilli with a Cheese and White Wine Sauce. These pastas are made with real Italian fusilli, providing a point of provenance on the free from fixture. Mrs Crimble’s pasta is the first range available within the free from fixture which combines corn pasta with a dried sauce – they can be prepared in 10 minutes by adding boiling water and cooking them on a hob or in the microwave.

Bernard Matthews Cheese Hamwich

Turkey ham and cheese coated in crispy breadcrumbs. Although I'm afraid that you can't get more processed than this, and I don't really fancy trying it. Still a great novelty, and I love a word mash-up!
£1.50 in Tesco

Seaweed in Marks and Spencers!

Edinburgh-based Mara Seaweed is now stocked UK-wide by M&S. Mara Dulse seaweed flakes will be available in 173 of M&S Food Halls across the UK as part of a new Artisan Range of branded products from the British Isles. The company was selected this spring to be one of three finalists in the BBC Food & Farming Awards for Best Food Producer. Mara’s listing at Marks and Spencer will reintroduce this ancient superfood with a unique taste, to a wider audience. Apparently seaweed is increasingly being used to season food, although I'm yet to see it in any recipes.

Lipton Raspberry Iced Tea

Soft drinks manufacturer Britvic has launched a new raspberry-flavoured variety of its Lipton Ice Tea ahead of the summer period. The new variant joins the iced tea brand’s existing peach, lemon and mango flavours.
In addition to the new flavour, Lipton has reformulated all of its drinks so that they contain 30% less sugar, leading to a reduction of 100 calories in every 500ml of liquid.

Tempting Twinings

Green tea has long been the drink of choice for health gurus, dieters and de-toxers for its fantastic content of antioxidants. Not to mention that green tea is alleged to boost weight loss, reduce cholesterol, combat cardiovascular disease, prevent cancer and Alzheimer's disease. However, many are repulsed by it's bitter taste. So Twinings have taken action.... rather drastically.... with their new range of green teas in an assortment of tantalizing flavours:

Fudge Melts Indulgence Green Tea - 20 EnvelopesCherry Bakewell Indulgence Green Tea - 20 Envelopes

Caramelised Apple Indulgence Green Tea - 20 EnvelopesGingerbread Indulgence Green Tea - 20 Envelopes

Review: Yoomoo Yogurt Lollies

I have long been a fan of frozen yogurt, so I was eager to try these lollies. The concept is very good: they're healthier than most standard ice creams, cheaper to buy than tubs of frozen yogurt, and you don't have to munch your way through an entire tub (although, to be honest, I really don't find that a problem!!).
The size of the lolly is alright. Not as small as some of the frozen yogurt mini ice creams that supermarkets are bringing out in their own brand name, but not as big as a magnum. Just right, I'd say. They are attractive in appearance; colourfully marbled. However, it was the eating experience that disappointed me. I was expecting a great flavour from Yoomoo, considering how scrummy their tubs of frozen yogurt are, but I felt that the Mixed Berry flavour was a bit insipid. The Strawberry was better, but still not very rich - more like Nesquik strawberry milk powder. (I haven't yet tried the tropical) . Also, the yogurt melted in my mouth a lot more quickly than a lot of other lollies, which I suppose is due to the yogurt element. Nevertheless, it still shortened the eating experience.
I probably wouldn't get these lollies again, especially if they're not on special offer.

Unashamedly British in M&S...

Surely 'new' and 'traditional' are a bit contradictory. Basically, M&S have brought out a huge new range featuring traditional British foods. Their new range is HUGE, but here are a few of the somewhat more quirky products....
