Jam Roly Poly & Custard Ice Cream

Oh Aunt Bessie. How I adore you, you nice woman, you. You've only gone and made some delectable British puddings (best eaten HOT)  in a format perfect for this blazing heat wave! So now it's the middle of August, it's been one of the hottest days of the year and I'm gorging on Jam Roly Poly with custard... and it's goooood. The Jam Roly Poly mixes soft pieces of sponge with a fruity raspberry sauce and custard-flavoured ice cream, while the Rhubarb Crumble combines crunchy pieces of crumble with rhubarb, finished off with a drizzle of tangy rhubarb sauce. But wait, that's not it. There's a third flavour: Lemon Meringue Pie combines crunchy pieces of meringue and shortbread with a drizzle of lemon curd sauce.

Available in Morrisons. Get 'em while they're hot!

Candy Kittens Sweet Pineapple

If you watch Made in Chelsea, you may be familiar with Jamie Laing. If, like me, you don't, then you may be more familiar with his sweets. Jamie is the creator of gourmet candy company Candy Kittens. Candy Kittens makes gummy sweets with unusual flavours such as Eton Mess and sour watermelon which are currently stocked in Waitrose and Sainsbury's.  Candy Kittens’ confectionery is gluten free and “made from real fruit juices,” the company claims, although they have attracted criticism from vegeterians for using gelatin. But veggies (and vegans) need not fear, for their latest product Sweet Pineapple has not so much sniffed an animal, even though it has been shaped like one! What a taste - pineapple just as it should be. They're more refreshing that Refreshers and more more-ish than Maltesers. If you can afford them, they're worth every penny.

Oh, and apparently Jamie is heir to biscuit company McVities. Wowzers!

Limited Edition Mug Shot

Better late than never! Here's one that slipped through the net.... I didn't notice it creep onto the shelves amidst all the Olympics/Brazilian chaos. We're currently in the calm that is the eye of the storm between the regular Olympics and the Paralympics. Yes, that's right, we're not quite finished with Rio yet! So get this limited edition while you can and while the Brazilian samba is still buzzing...

It features pasta spirals in a spicy lemon, garlic and chicken flavour sauce, which mirrors one of Brazil's staple dishes of grilled or barbecued chicken, more commonly referred to as Frango de Churrasco. Available in Tesco.

Alistair won gold at the London Olympics and Jonny picked up bronze. It's the Collective's first every dual-layered yogurt and was the perfect answer to keeping both brothers happy. Going crackers for ciabatta

This new innovation from Jacob's  combines all the taste of a ciabatta bread with the lightness and crunch of a cracker.  Available in three variants – Original, Sundried Tomato & Basil and Caramelised Onion – Jacob’s Ciabatta Crackers are a modern alternative to bread. It's a pleasing forage into the  growing trend of lighter offerings for lunch; apparently the consumption of bread-based sandwiches at lunchtime is in long term decline. What's next? Naan bread crackers?

The only reason for hot chocolate in August...

Today it clouded over slightly, but it was enough to justify having a hot chocolate in August. Why?  Because I have just discovered a coconut Choc Shot from Sweet Freedom. It's a liquid chocolate (only 14 pesky calories per teaspoon) and sweetened only with natural sweetener. It doesn't just make a heavenly hot choc; it's great drizzled over banana on toast (this morning's breakfast!).

Prawn crackers - no longer just for the Chinese takeaway!

Introducing the UK's first flavoured prawn crackers from Itsu - sweet chilli flavour and mild wasabi. The perfect eat beautiful snack- less than 97 calories per serving. Prawn crackers are no longer just for accompanying the Friday night Chinese takeaway!

Salted Caramel Florentines

I'm so fond of Thomas J. Fudge. I regard him a bit like a friendly great-uncle; he always knows the way to my heart, and this is no exception. He's just gone and brought out a salted caramel version of his famous Florentines. They're a heavenly combination of smooth milk chocolate, almonds and succulent fruit, with a silky layer of sublime salted caramel. Nibble with fresh coffee after elegant suppers, wrap up with ribbons as a present for parties, or serve with scoops of ice cream and share with friends.

Limited edition chocolate cookie syrup

Apparently this is only available until the end of this year, so get it while you can! Just a teaspoon of Monin Chocolate Cookie syrup injects a burst of buttery chocolate biscuit flavour into a range of drinks, from coffees to milkshakes and cocktails. I  particularly recommend trying it in a hot chocolate!

Why would you want to share these?

These new bags have been developed to share with your friends. This is one of the only times that having very few friends is a positive - it means more of these yummy snacks for yourself.  And, if you don’t devour it all in one sitting, simply seal the bag back up for later.

Three combinations are now available from Sainsbury's; Dark Chocolate Cherry Tart, (Belgian dark chocolate, dried cherries, pecan nuts & raisins), Punchy Protein Nuts (zesty chilli & lime flavoured cashews, lightly salted peanuts & raw almonds) and Veggie Protein Power Nuts (edamame beans, spicy whole chickpeas & cashews with a twist of black pepper).

For all you chocoholic coffee-lovers

A cup of coffee should make you happy. It's that moment in the day to look forward to and savour. That's what these infused instant coffees from Little's are all about. Little's gently infuse  Arabica coffee with exciting flavours from ingredients we love, to create a coffee that'll have your tastebuds high-fiving you. And since they're super easy to make, you have more time to enjoy the good things in life like that extra five minute snooze in the morning, or a game of scrabble.
Sainsbury's have just started stocking the chocolate caramel flavour. Forrest Gump once said “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get”. While I agree with this, if you're a chocoholic coffee-lover, you can guarantee that this Chocolate Caramel infused coffee is always gonna be a winner.

Sainsbury's are also stocking the coffee infused with natural Madagascan Bourbon vanilla. Did you know that Bourbon vanilla originated on the island of Reunion (originally called Bourbon) named after the French dynasty who settled the island – hence why it's called French Vanilla!

Have a Smooze

When fresh coconut milk is combined with tropical fruit, the result is the truly sensational Smooze.

Smooze is a low calorie, freeze-at-home, tropical treat. Made simply from freshly-pressed coconut milk and pure fruit juices and purees, with one taste, you'll know you're eating something good. Free from dairy, gluten, soy, nuts, artificial sweeteners, colourings and flavourings, Smooze is a portion-controlled, guilt-free indulgence.

The new Smooze on the block is Coconut & Pineapple, joining the two existing flavours already in Sainsbury's. You can actually taste the freshness. Enjoy!

Only By Nature Frozen Yogurt

Frozen yogurt has been hailed as an angelic equivalent to ice-cream because it's low-fat. However, you've probably heard the latest nutritional mutterings that low-fat diets are unhealthy because they're laden with added sugar. Well take a look at this new frozen yogurt. It contains less than 3% fat but it has NO ADDED SUGAR. It's sweetened with the natural sweetener Stevia. Smiley face. What's more, it's gluten free and if you still feel guilty about indulging in this, then I should alert you to the conscience-salving fact that a proportion of profits from each tub will go to the Diabetes UK charity. Win win.... And that also goes to show how incredibly low sugar it is.

Two flavours are stocked in Tesco; summer berry and mango. Classics. I've tried the mango one and it certainly doesn't lack in taste.

Oh, and if you STILL have the slightest doubt whether or not you should give into the temptation, then let me just tell you that it's made on the UK's first carbon neutral farm. You can't get much more angelic than that!

(Nearly) Calorie-free rice in Tesco

Sainsbury's and Morrisons have stocked Barenaked noodles and rice for a little while now. In case you don't know, these are konjac carbs which are made from an ancient plant grown in Asia. The secret is the root of the plant. The flour from the root is super low-calorie and has been used to make weight-loss products. Now Tesco have joined the diet; they've just started stocking 'Better Than Foods' Konjac Rice which has just 35 calories per serving. This is 90% less than regular rice. Get in. Save the extra calories for dessert!

With the barbecue season in full swing, I'm sure this will add a kick to the proceedings! French's have released a fiery addition to their range of classic mustards. The new addition has a hint of cayenne pepper, ideal on sandwiches, wraps, hotdogs and burgers, or when combined to dips and sauces.

Sharwood's Vegetable Sides

If there was ever a good reason not to get a takeaway, then this is it...

Rebel Kitchen Chocolate Orange Mylk

If you like the look of the Friji Chocolate Orange Milk, but can't have it because it's dairy, or you're put off by the large quantities of sugar, then this will be good news.... Tesco now stock Rebel Kitchen's Dairy Free Chocolate Orange 'Mylk'. It's an organic coconut milk drink with cacao & orange, and it uses organic date nectar in place of refined sugars. So... why not?
